Jean-François Rossignol, M.D., Ph.D., F.R.S.C.
Chairman of the Board of Managers and Chief Science Officer
Dr. Rossignol, a Sorbonne graduate, was trained as a synthetic medicinal chemist and physician,
leading to an accomplished career as a research scientist. He spent 20 years in academia in France
and in the United States before joining the pharmaceutical industry with Squibb Corporation in Princeton,
New Jersey, in 1987. In 1993, Dr. Rossignol co-founded Romark Laboratories to develop one of his early
inventions, nitazoxanide, the first of a new class of drugs called the thiazolides.
During his academic career, Dr. Rossignol developed albendazole, the first broad spectrum, single dose
anthelminthic, and the antimalarial, halofantrine, both for SmithKline Beckman Corporation, today
GlaxoSmithKline PLC. Both drugs received regulatory approvals in many countries, including the United States,
and albendazole made the World Health Organization's Essential Drug List.
Dr. Rossignol has held numerous full-time and adjunct faculty positions, published more than
100 articles in scientific or medical journals and been awarded 25 US patents. For 11 years,
he served first as a consultant and later as an expert in parasitic diseases for the World Health
Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. He is currently affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine.
Marc S. Ayers
Manager and Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Ayers is a co-founder of the company. Prior to founding Romark, he spent seven years as a certified
public accountant in the tax consulting practice of KPMG Peat Marwick in Tampa, Florida, and then five
years as an investment banker, where he gained experience in working with the pharmaceutical industry.
Mr. Ayers studied accounting, economics and finance, graduating summa cum laude with a Master's degree
in Taxation from the University of Alabama in 1981.
Celine E. Rossignol
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Celine joined Romark in September 2005 as Vice President of Marketing & Business Development and
was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in July 2006. She has over 12 years'
experience in the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry. Before joining Romark, she was at IMS Health,
where she held numerous sales and marketing positions, both in Europe and in the United States.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Rider University in New Jersey.
She also completed an executive program on Strategic Marketing Management at Harvard Business School.
Emmet B. Keeffe, M.D., M.A.C.P.
Vice President and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Keeffe recently joined Romark, taking over as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. Throughout
his career, Dr. Keeffe has been an academic clinician and educator as well as an active clinical investigator,
with a major focus on novel treatment of chronic viral hepatitis. Most recently, he served as Professor of
Medicine, Chief of Hepatology, and Co-Director of the Liver Transplant Program at Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Keeffe's research interests include antiviral therapy of chronic hepatitis B and C, use of hepatitis vaccines,
and liver transplant selection criteria and outcomes. He has authored more than 500 papers, chapters and other publications.
A past-president of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal
Endoscopy, Dr. Keeffe also served as a member and chair of the Subspecialty Board on Gastroenterology for the
American Board of Internal Medicine. He is a Master of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the
American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American College
of Gastroenterology, and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. He lectures widely at national and international s
cientific meetings and postgraduate courses.
Jeffrey Crowther
Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Jeff joined Romark in August 2005 as Vice President of Sales and was promoted to Vice President
of Sales & Marketing in July 2006. Prior to joining Romark, he spent 13 years in pharmaceutical
Sales and Marketing with Johnson & Johnson and its subsidiary, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical.
During his tenure at Johnson & Johnson, Jeff held Director-level positions in Marketing, Sales
Management, and Managed Markets. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from St.
John's University.
Brian Schnieders
Chief Financial Officer
Brian heads the company's finance and accounting functions. He graduated from the University of Nebraska
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He spent eight years as a certified public
accountant in the audit practice of KPMG Peat Marwick in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Tampa, Florida. He is a
licensed CPA in the State of Florida.
